For the first time in our nations history our government has managed to go over ONE TRILLION DOLLARS into the red on the yearly budget and we are only in July. This must be why health care has no chance of getting signed until next year or he would have trouble beating this record next time.
WASHINGTON — Nine months into the fiscal year, the federal deficit has topped $1 trillion for the first time ever.
The imbalance is intensifying fears about higher interest rates and inflation, and already pressuring the value of the dollar.
The Treasury Department says the deficit in June totaled $94.3 billion, pushing the total since the budget year started in October to nearly $1.1 trillion.
The deficit has been propelled by the huge sum the government has spent to combat the recession and financial crisis, combined with a sharp decline in tax revenues. Paying for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is also a major factor.
The country’s soaring deficits are making some foreign buyers of U.S. debt nervous, and this could make them reluctant lenders down the road.

Yeah, but when we’re unemployed we have a tax cut — no income, no withholding! IRS will get its due by taxing unemployment benefits out the door.

the renegade is back swinging. she’s willing to stump for candidates of any party with conservative positions on energy & taxes. Pat Buchanan suggested waterboarding her grandsons’ daddy. it might help Sarah’s career if the kid got a job & stfu. he might feel differently if he were paying taxes.
Lots of commenters on blogs discussing the Palin Op Ed assume that she had a ghost writer. This only means one thing – they think it is a good piece!
(BTW – I am sure it hasn’t dawned on these people that 99% of what Obama puts out there is written by his speechwriters, not him. Not that I doubt Sarah actually wrote her article).
Of course they do, and it was. I’m sure she had some proof readers and some advice was given, but it was totally Palin.
I think she expresses herself very well. she’s a hunter. the best statements come out when she’s attacking a problem – like Letterman. no words wasted on dickheads.

There is a NYT article on the US debt today (see post at http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/11/23/12-trillion-in-debt-living-beyond-our-means/). It hasn’t been just after the financial crisis of 2008 that the US Government has had unbalanced annual budgets… And consider consumer “use” of credit cards? Is there something about our society–about ourselves–that we are missing because we are in it? (e.g. a fish doesn’t “see” its water). I don’t think we are digging deep enough.
