Why does the GOP look at Reagan as a God?
He was an absent minded douche.
Nancy ran the country and everyone with half a brain knows it.
Mommy!?!?!? Where’s my jelly beans?!?!?

Our loss, DE, our loss!.
There’s just not that much time for it Mary. Plus the current political landscape leaves me depressed beyond words.
Barack, Mitt, or Newt….barf.

Day 1178 – Going to War | January 26, 2012
I don’t know if this was a Mitt Romney plan, something his surrogates came up with or the culmination of ideas among supporters, but the dumb bastards who thought of questioning Newt Gingrich’s Reagan era credentials are playing a dangerous game. Ronald Reagan is the most important figure in conservative politics. Everyone else is either beholden to him or some pundit who never got in the game. The Democrats have no modern equivalent. Carter was incompetent, LBJ was a mean SOB and Bill Clinton is still talking about his record. Reagan entered his long twilight after the presidential election of 1992. Reagan is only a memory to a generation of conservatives. No Republican before him could even be considered a successful conservative.

I believe the perception of Ronald Reagan as an amiable dolt was enforced by the same SNL and comedy community that says Sarah Palin is a dumb bimbo. Ronald Reagan was an FDR Democrat for decades and one of those Hollywood actors who believed in their principles. Except in his case, he paid those 91% taxes unlike the limousine liberals of today. In essence, the Democratic Party left him. When he ran for president in 1968, he had the plurality of votes until the Republicans got delegates to vote for Nixon. Sound familiar?
Still, Reagan has achieved a mythic status because there is only his history to draw from over the last 20-25 years. In the case of Democrats, The last Democratic president to die was LBJ almost 40 years ago, and he is tied to Vietnam.
It’s hard to be a living legend, especially when you say stupid stuff like Carter does or actively campaign for the current Democrat, like Clinton. Bill Clinton chose to be an active figure instead of an elder statesman. If you’re still a politician, it’s hard to be more than just a man.
Like 1539 says, it has to be his history that makes it. Some love to keep talking history.
Now on the other topic, winding down…..
Please don’t. Scale to something comfortable. Politics can be so depressing.
But pets never are. Zoe would agree.
Sorry to hear you’re winding down DE. I understand, but I enjoy your wit and I will miss it……..who else wants to cover the middle east in bacon fat?
