it’s not enough that Dade has tanked the state budget with demand for $450 /mo per family in food stamps. one of the parent advocates made national news on Fox a few weeks ago with her hunger strike group. she got a totally sympathetic response from Gretchen.
maybe those teachers need to find out how much unpaid overtime those in the private sector put in. that’s if they can find a job in the private sector. Miami Dade gov is wasteful & corrupt. they don’t need after-school programs unless they can bring in local tax revenue to do it. foreclosed homeowners don’t pay taxes so they need to tighten their belts & be glad their kids aren’t going to school in Afghanistan.
God forbid there’s a townhall meeting in Miami with Obama.

I can’t believe that State Rep is helping a non-resident when so many Floridians are out of work losing their homes. the son is probably qualified for SCHIP being only 33.

I’d live in my truck before making a fool of myself in public.
in fact I have lived in my van, & in a sailboat out in Peluti’s SF Bay district. it’s really not that bad.

the increased homestead exemption & portability act was the little thing we were in a hurry to vote on last Feb that caused our Dem Primary to become invalid. it never promised to do much. my taxes are about the same, but insurance keeps going up.

When pop singer Chris Brown assaulted his girlfriend Rihanna, also an award winning recording artist, there was an immediate outcry of support for Rihanna.

Within a few short days that support waivered and people in the community started blaming Rihanna for the violence that was perpetrated against her, many saying that she did something to provoke such a horrific attack. There are even those who did not explicitly blame her, but still implied that there was something she did wrong or could have done to prevent it and have refused to hold Chris Brown responsible and accountable for this attack.

In a survey of 200 Boston kids aged 12-19 questioned, “51% believe Chris Brown was responsible for the incident, 46% believe Rihanna was responsible, and 52% said both were to blame; 52% said the media was treating Brown unfairly; 44% said fighting was a normal part of a relationship.”

We know as advocates, support people and activists in the fight to end violence against women that the only person responsible is the abuser–the one who made a choice to use violence, power and control to resolve a conflict. Regardless of circumstances or other factors, violence and abuse are never an acceptable response, especially within a relationship.

Abuse is not normal, but many times violence and abusive tactics, like jealousy, possessiveness, name-calling or blaming, are normalized in our society or even minimized by some. It’s our duty as activists and support people to respond. hold abusers accountable and speak out against domestic violence.

What We Can Do

Know the Facts. Myths about domestic violence are rampant in our society. From believing that domestic violence only happens to poor people to blaming the victim for staying in an abusive relationship, perpetuating false information about domestic violence is detrimental to survivors and the agencies working to help them. CBS4 News Miami reported yesterday: Coastal Construction, one of the largest construction companies in South Florida, was caught employing illegal aliens for a Miami school building project worth $16.17 million. the project has been underway for a year. Miami teachers & parents have been protesting & begging the feds for school funding since PRE-election so jobs & after school programs will not be cut. when homes are in foreclosure property tax revenue isn’t coming into the schools. since those parents, teachers, AFLCIO members (including the AFLCIO President Pig member who met with Joe Biden in Ft Laud) complaining supported Obama in the election, Obama should re-think his support/recruitment of illegal aliens to his Democratic party. Mel Martinez’s E-Verify proposal was taken out of the stimulus bill so the shovel-ready jobs will be going to who?
